- Shopping Bags / Packaging films
- Cutlery
- Straws & Drink Stirrers
- Bottles & Lids
- Takeaway Containers
- Polystyrene Containers
- Plastic Lined Coffee Cups & Lids
- Single-use Cups, Plates & Bowls
The above mentioned Plastic items are difficult or impossible to recycle, pollute our oceans and waterways and harms ocean life as well as wildlife.
They also do not biodegrade and simply break into smaller particles, releasing harmful chemicals into the soil, air, and water.
Break Free From Plastics...
It is easy to refuse single-use plastics such as plastic shopping bags, cutlery, utensils, straws, stir sticks, plates, cups, etc by simply preparing ahead before heeding out
Always carry 1 or 2 reusable bags, a spork, bamboo straw, dear old SS or Glass water bottle
That alone could avoid handful or rather a "bagful" of plastics
Balloons do belong in the above list of Killer Plastics..
Balloons can kill animals as they are mistaken for food, causing intestinal blockage & painful death. When improperly disposed or released in air they could travel for miles, pollute and litter our environment
Also, helium balloons deplete Helium which is a finite, limited resource; once helium is released into the atmosphere it is gone forever and there is no chemical way to manufacture helium. Helium is needed for other essential uses, in particular medical diagnostics & treatment
Simple Ways to Reduce Plastic Pollution
- Wean off disposable plastics ( bags / wraps, cutlery, straws )
- STOP BUYING PACKAGED / BOTTLED WATER ( about 20 billion plastic bottles tossed in trash yearly in US alone )
- Cook more
- Buy in bulk
- Put pressure on manufacturers
- Recycle
